Intertitle Tunes
Intertitle Tunes is an ongoing project exploring early twentieth-century popular music through drawing, animation and moving image. Using public-domain recordings, I create illustrated lyric videos inspired by silent cinema and early film intertitles.
Each video combines hand-drawn portraits of historic performers, illustrated typography and animated text, bringing archival recordings into a contemporary context. The project grew from my fascination with the distinctive atmosphere of these early recordings and has become an ongoing way of researching and reinterpreting popular culture through drawing and animation.
Several of the videos have also been used for live singalong events, inviting audiences to engage directly with this overlooked musical history.
