Helmet for the Lambton Worm is a sculptural interpretation of the spiked armour worn by Lord Lambton in the North East folktale The Lambton Worm. Growing up in the North East, the story and its accompanying song were a familiar part of childhood, and I vividly remember hearing how the worm had coiled itself around Penshaw Hill. Deliberately handmade in appearance, the helmet functions as both sculpture and imagined costume, exploring memory, folklore and transformation.
