Baubo

Baubo was created for Four Legs Good Two Legs Bad, an exhibition celebrating the Year of the Pig.

My piece is inspired by Baubo, the Greek goddess of mirth. She is sometimes depicted riding on the back of a pig and is often represented as little more than a head with limbs. My interpretation reimagines her as a playful soft sculpture with oversized eyes, exaggerated features and a flower-covered hat that draws on English folk traditions such as Jack in the Green, connecting Baubo's irreverent spirit with the celebratory, theatrical character of these customs.

Medium : Fabric, foam, papier mache, fake eyelashes
