STATEMENT

My work uses mixed media and drawing as the main processes As well as this I have created work in video and multi media.

The subjects I deal with are typically to do with popular culture and growing up. My work concentrates on the emulation of icons and obsessions, feelings of isolation and trying to fit in. As an artist I am very interested in the emulation involved in the search for an identity of one's own and the inherent security of finding an idol to latch onto.

I use the teenage years in my work as a symbol of feeling fragile, socially inept or awkward. As adults we have all been teenagers and it's a painful time for most of us, when we want to find where we fit in the world. I am interested in these times when we are unsure of ourselves, when our insecurites are very close to the surface. This feeling is always lurking in the background of even the most confident person. Most people whether they are teenagers or adults can see their own insecurities and foibles and feel empathy with this.

In recent work I have been creating paintings using nail varnish and nail technician tools on mirrors.
